On the 4th of November 2005 I went to see My Chemical Romance at Brixton academy with 3 friends and one word sums it up - insane
So we got on the train to London Waterloo, all emoed up and ready to rock. Once the train had arrived at said destination we hopped off and made our way to the underground.
The underground trains were terribly crowded, but then what do you expect? It was 6pm GMT, and so we squeezed on with me falling on some man when the train came to a sudden stop.
After the journey through the underground it was up to Brixton Academy. We walked over to the venue, surrounded with fellow 'MCR' fans in blacks, reds and stripy tops. White must've felt lonely....
After a tediously long queue around the main building we finally got to the front doors, and were accepted in. We arranged a meeting place and entered the venue. We booked tickets for the standing area below the balcony, mainly so we could be closer to the action without having to get neck ache. Luckily for us we got there just in time for the first supporting act.
Driveby were the first to play, and they sure enjoyed themselves. Although I wasn't familiar with this band or any of the songs and I couldn't really 'get into it' and each song was sadly forgotten once the next had started up.
While Driveby was playing we kept getting closer and closer to the stage. Whereas before we were 3 quarters away from the stage, we had caught up on good spots and were about halfway in.
Then, a band that I was just as eager to see as 'MCR' came on. 'Every Time I Die' went on to a buzzing crowd and absolutely blew my mind. The richness in his screaming was so pure with emotion and was entwined with a melodic outburst that created some awesome sounds. The album Gutter Phenomenon is awesome once you give it a whirl, but doesn’t even compare to the mind blowing music that came out of Keith Buckley and crew’s imagination when heard live.
Awesome in every way, and a band that I'd like to see again. Definitely.
Finally it was time for the main event, an attraction so anticipated by me I was exhausted just in thought .I was now a quarter of the way to the front, with a great view of the stage.
Screams, huge screams were propelled from the audience's throats (me included) and with this, they came...
'My Chemical Romance' were received with immense applause and praise. Storming on with 'thank you for the venom' .The whole set was a brilliant choice and all my favorites were played, including 'to the end' 'I'm not okay' and 'Helena' (being the anniversary of their grandmother's death it was especially pumped) They were even so kind to play a completely new one that will be seen on their next album. Through raging, sweaty, hormone possessed people I slid through, constantly 'touching' both male and female. With the advantage of being relatively small I ended up right at the front, not so far as 2 meters from Ray Toro, Which made the day complete. not only was Gerard Way a fantastic entertainer but he sure knew how to throw out some screams , pumping adreniline through my blood, even if I hadn't eaten since lunch time.
Frank, Bob, Mikey and Ray all used their instruments to create near perfect representations of their previous album hits and nothing went wrong.
The crowd were all fired up, with the flailing of limbs, cigarettes, hair, you name it, the atmosphere was awesome, creating an awesome pit of thrashing between the whole of the downstairs area, an MCRmy before your eyes. This was what MCR are about when they come out of their shell and I'm sure as hell glad I came.
Vampires will never hurt you, at least not when my blood's this fucking charged...
[END]
On another note, work is piling up on me, so don't expect much new submissions of the next few months. Expect to see some new content when I have some time on my hands
